House Approves Funding for Department of Homeland Security

On Tuesday, the house voted in favor of the Homeland Security Department, and has decided to continue to fund the department through the end of the budget year.

What does this mean for Obama and his immigration reform? The constant battling between the two house parties will finally have to be resolved and dealt with for.

The short term funding was running out of time, and going to end Friday at midnight, if the Bill did not get approved. For President Obama and his administration, this is great news. It means that Republicans can no longer roadblock the President and his actions towards reforming the immigration policy.

While House Democrats are ecstatic for this, which passed with a 257-167 vote, house Republicans, such as Speaker John Boehner, expressed his opinion and stance regarding the legislation stating, “I am as outraged and frustrated as you at the lawless and unconstitutional actions of this president.”

While he isn’t happy with the funding, he understands that it was going to be decided anyway and expressed that since it has passed, they should work on a “clean” Bill and went on to agree that, “considering where we are is the right one for this team, and the right one for this country.”

While the legislation has passed, Boehner did tell officials that he and his party would continue to fight Obama’s Immigration reform in the courtroom.

Representative Peter T. King, Republican of New York praised Boehner for his actions and for leading the Republicans in their “battle” saying, “I do give John Boehner credit for standing strong through all this and guiding us. “A certain group takes the party in this crazy direction and we end up coming back and doing the right thing in the end, with just political damage done along the way. Thank God there was no governmental damage done along the way.”
