There have been clashes between police and Imran Khan’s followers as they seek to apprehend Pakistan’s most prominent opposition leader.

The police had to use tear gas to disperse the gathering after being stoned and bricked by supporters.

In the city of Lahore, tensions grow as police seek to breach the compound’s gates.

There are allegations that he inappropriately benefitted from his government position by selling goods that were gifted to him. He asserts that the prosecution is politically biased.

Mr. Khan, 70, said that he believes the police are more determined to get him than in the past.

He anticipated spending the night in a cell. I am prepared for whatever many nights it may last.

The former prime minister appeared beside what he said were tear gas canisters fired upon his house.

According to him, the administration was planning his arrest to prevent his party from standing in the next election.

Yet, he said, “They will not be able to prevent my party from winning whether I am in jail or not.”

The significant stakes in Imran Khan’s election campaign

The campaign of cricket great Imran Khan for Pakistani prime minister was defeated.

Moreover, his supporters are holding protests in other cities..

Imran Khan was removed as prime minister in April of last year, but he has maintained pressure on his successor Shehbaz Sharif via rallies and regular speeches, urging that the elections slated for later this year be pushed earlier.

He holds Mr. Sharif accountable for the November rally assassination attempt that left him with a leg wound.
