Iranian officials accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy of spreading anti-Iran propaganda by demanding that Iran stop supplying drones to Russia on Saturday.
Zelenskiy delivered a video address on Wednesday, urging the Iranians to stop their descent into “the dark side of history” by providing drones to Moscow.
Iran initially denied providing any Shahed drones to Russia, but later admitted to doing so before hostilities erupted. Ukraine claims that Russian drone attacks on cities and infrastructure were heavily reliant on drone technology.
In a statement carried by Iranian media, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said that the Ukrainian president’s “repetition of delusional claims against the Islamic Republic of Iran is in line with the anti-Iranian propaganda and media war” aimed at attracting as much arms and financial aid from Western countries as possible.
According to Kanaani, Ukraine has obstructed any independent investigation into the allegations.
Russia’s military cooperation with Iran has increased since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022. Despite admitting to using Iranian-made drones, Iran is now pushing to increase domestic production.
“The simple question is this: what is your interest in being an accomplice to Russian terror?” Zelenskiy said in his speech last Wednesday.
Every night, your Shaheds terrorize Ukraine, and the Iranian people are being pushed further and further into the shadows of history
