Looks like JT accidentally got himself in a bit of trouble.
Yesterday, pop star Justin Timberlake posted a photo on his Instagram page encouraging his many followers to get out and vote in this presidential election. Harmless, right? He was simply trying to urge his 37.1 million followers to make their voices heard. Sadly, he wasn’t familiar with a Tennessee state law which prohibits phone usage in the voting booth. The post has since been deleted.
According to Entertainment Weekly, “The matter is under review of the (Shelby County) DA’s office. The law itself TCA2-7-142(B). The offense is a state class C misdemeanor. Any person convicted of this violation could be sentenced up to 30 days or fined no more than $50 or both.” Although Timberlake’s motives were seemingly harmless, he could be the first person to be prosecuted since this law was implemented this past year.
Law breaking aside, listen to Justin and get out and vote this year! Many towns offer early voting, check for your local voting location here and make your voice heard.
