Law enforcement authorities in Los Angeles have charged a man, Deonte Lee Murray, with the attempted murder of two police officers on Wednesday, who were shot as they sat in their police patrol car. Murray was already in police custody for carjacking charges unrelated to this case, the prosecutors maintained.
Meanwhile, Associated Press reported that on Wednesday, Murray had pleaded not guilty to both charges. The video circulated on social media showed that an individual walked to the police’s patrol car, opened fire, and then ran away.

Though the police officers were severely injured in the incident, they have been since released from the hospital. Meanwhile, the police authorities described the September 12th incident as an ambush. It caused a national outcry in America, and both presidential candidates in the upcoming presidential election – Joe Biden and Donald Trump – called on the authorities to severely punish the culprit.
Meanwhile, the office of Los Angeles District Attorney said that Deonte Lee Murray had been charged with two counts of attempted murder and possession of a gun by a convicted felon. Since September 15, he had been in police custody for carjacking charges, the statement said.
Murray was remanded in prison with his bail set to a staggering $6.5 million following Wednesday’s appearance, and in November, he is due back in court. However, the prosecutors have not yet suggested the potential motive behind the shooting of police officers in the suburbs of Compton, Los Angeles.
Besides that, the police department did not name them; they were described as a 24-years-old man and a 31-years-old woman. The male police officer was hit in the forehead, an arm, and hand, while the female officer was shot in arms and jaws.
Moreover, the local media later reported that even though the female officer was severely injured, she helped her male partner and applied a tourniquet to his wounded arm. With the presidential election just days ahead, law and order have become a key issue in the presidential debate. Moreover, both candidates strongly condemned the attack.
Republican President Donald Trump took to Twitter and posted the footage of the incident and said, “Animals that must be hit hard.” Meanwhile, Joe Biden, the Democratic candidate, described the incident as a cold-blooded murder and called on the local authorities to bring the perpetrator to justice.
