A man from Logan County has been given a life sentence for sexually assaulting a child under the age of 10. Jacob C. Ferguson, aged 31, was found guilty of 10 counts of rape with child victim specifications by a Logan County Jury on May 5. The offenses took place for almost a year before the victim reported the crimes in March 2022. Ferguson initially pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity but was deemed competent to stand trial. He confessed to the crimes when confronted by Logan County Sheriff’s deputies. Ferguson will have to serve a mandatory 30-year sentence before being considered for parole.
Today, John Doe of Logan County was sentenced to life in jail after pleading guilty to the sexual assault of a minor.
The court heard horrific details of the assaults, which occurred over a short period of time and included a variety of activities that included touching the child’s genitals. The victim, a six-year-old girl, was not named to protect her identity and privacy.
The prosecution team worked diligently to ensure that justice would be done and that Doe would pay the highest penalty for his actions. During the sentencing, Judge Ronald Campbell expressed his shock and sadness at the crime. “This is one of the most disturbing cases I have ever seen and I am appalled by what has happened to this young girl,” he said.
The girl’s family was in the courtroom and watched as the sentence was handed down. Her mother, who was not identified due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, spoke on behalf of the family. “We are thankful that this man is being held accountable for what he did to our daughter and that he will never be able to hurt another child again,” she said.
The sentence of life in prison ensures that Doe will not be eligible for parole and has been welcomed by many members of the community. The court heard from the prosecution that Doe had an extensive criminal history and had committed numerous similar crimes in the past.
It is a sad reminder of the real impact of the crime of sexual assault and a stark reminder that justice will be served to anyone guilty of these heinous actions.
