The Ligue 1 match between Olympique de Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday was canceled due to an incident where Lyon’s team bus was attacked with stones, resulting in injuries to coach Fabio Grosso. Sky Italia footage showed damage to the bus windows and Grosso being escorted into the stadium with blood-stained hands covering his face. Italian media reported that Grosso suffered injuries to his scalp and face. Lyon’s club president, John Textor, expressed anger over the situation and stated that the players and coach were prepared for the match, but the decision not to play was made considering the injuries and the club’s opinion. Fans were asked to leave the stadium calmly. Referee Francois Letexier confirmed that the match was called off due to the injuries and the club’s decision. French sports minister Amelie Oudea Castera condemned the attack on the bus and Grosso’s injuries, calling the acts unacceptable and demanding severe punishment for the perpetrators. Seven suspects were arrested on Sunday night. Marseille accepted the decision to cancel the game and promised to ensure it takes place at the Stade Velodrome as soon as possible under the best conditions. Lyon expressed regret over the incident and called on authorities to address the seriousness and repetition of such incidents in Marseille. Lyon is currently at the bottom of Ligue 1 with three points, while Marseille is in ninth place with 12 points.
