Matthew Poitras scores twice as Bruins top Ducks to stay unbeaten

The Boston Bruins defeated the Anaheim Ducks 3-1 on Sunday night, with Matthew Poitras scoring his first two NHL goals in the third period. The game remained scoreless until Mason McTavish of the Ducks put his team ahead 5:05 into the final period. However, Boston’s rookie player quickly turned the game around by scoring the tying and winning goals within a span of 3:51. Brad Marchand added an empty-netter with 2:34 remaining to secure the victory for Boston. Linus Ullmark, the Bruins’ goaltender, made 30 saves, including 12 in the third period. Despite McTavish reaching his 50th career point with his goal, the Ducks suffered their third consecutive loss. John Gibson, Anaheim’s goaltender, stopped 23 shots. Both teams struggled on the power play, going 0-for-8 combined, and recorded a total of 33 hits. McTavish broke the scoreless tie with a rebound goal, while Poitras tied the game and then gave Boston the lead. The Bruins had a great opportunity early in the game, but DeBrusk hit the post on a short-handed breakaway. Gibson made a crucial save on Shattenkirk in the second period.
