The first lady of the US, Melania Trump, made a heartfelt plea on Tuesday, calling for racial unity in a live speech from the White House at the Republican Party convention. She urged the people to stop looting and violence as the protests broke out in Wisconsin after the police shooting incident.
The first lady candidly reflected on US history and called on the Americans to stop making assumptions based on race. Currently, the incumbent President trails his Democratic rival, Joe Biden, in opinion polls ahead of the November’s election.
On Thursday, Trump will address the conventional final night. On Tuesday’s convention, limelight-shunning Melania delivered the night’s keynote address in front of a small audience, including Trump in the Rose Garden.

She further added that she has also reflected on the racial tension in the country and said this is a harsh reality which she is not proud of. Melania urged the Americans to learn from the past while working on building a future, up to the American ideals.
The first lady called on the protesters to immediately halt the looting and violence in the name of justice. Surprisingly, the Tuesday’s convention began with a prayer for Jacob Blake, who was shot by police in Wisconsin on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Trump took to twitter for a call to the state’s governor to call in the National Guard in a bid to quell the unrest following Blake’s shooting. The Republican President has been continuously accused of stoking racial tension in the US, however, the black speakers at the convention categorically denied that Trump was racist.
In her speech from the White House, the US first lady expressed empathy for the people worried about the pandemic outbreak, which has killed more than 178,000 people in the US. She said that Americans anxious about the outbreak and feeling helpless, “I want you to know you’re not alone.”
Among the other speakers on the second night of the convention were Trump’s children, Tiffany, and Eric Trump. Eric accused the Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden of trying to defund the police, even though he has put forward no such proposal.
Moreover, the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, also delivered a pre-recorded address from Israel, praising Trump’s policy of ‘America First vision.’ However, critics and opposition called his participation in a political convention unethical, citing that traditionally country’s top diplomats do not attend such events.
