Mexico’s economy and labor ministries announced on Thursday that the country has accepted a request from the United States to investigate an alleged denial of collective labor rights at a plant owned by the American tire manufacturer Goodyear (GT.O) located in the state of San Luis Potosi in the country’s central region.
An independent union had submitted a request to the United States government to open a case in accordance with regional trade rules, arguing that employees were offered fewer benefits than those that are available to other workers in the rubber sector throughout the country.
According to a joint statement released by the ministries, the time limit for the investigation and subsequent decision-making by the labor ministry has been extended to 35 days.
