Following the discovery of what police believe to be the dismembered remains of Hong Kong model Abby Choi, four members of the same family were charged with her gruesome murder and appeared in court on Monday.
Choi’s husband, Alex, his brother, Anthony and their father Kwong Kau have been charged. While, her husband’s mother Jenny Li, has been charged with obstruction of justice.
According to reports, the Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court ruled on Monday that all four suspects should be jailed without bail. No one has argued on their behalf as of yet.
On Sunday, authorities reported discovering Choi’s alleged skull, ribs, and hair in a large stainless steel soup pot. Choi’s hands and body have not been located either.
This follows the launch of a police investigation into Choi’s disappearance on Wednesday. The authorities recovered fragments of her body at a residence in the Tai Po district two days later. Within the apartment, police reportedly discovered an electric saw, some clothing, and a meat slicer.
Saturday, according to police, Choi’s ex-husband was arrested at a ferry station on one of the city’s outer islands. Police detained both his sibling and his parents on Friday.
Sunday, police said that a 47-year-old woman was arrested as the fifth suspect in the investigation.
Abby Choi, a model and social media influencer with over 100,000 Instagram followers, was featured on the digital cover of the luxury fashion magazine L’Officiel Monaco in 2018 and attended Paris Fashion Week.
Hundreds of people expressed their sorrow over Choi’s passing on his social networking sites over the weekend, as grisly details of the investigation dominated local news coverage.
For police to undertake extra investigations, the court has postponed the hearing until May 8.
