“Netflix, remove the blasphemous film!” demands Omar Oropesa, a famous Latin gospel Musician in New York on his Netflix Petition. Oropesa is only one of the more than three million people, calling on Netflix to ban what they deemed as a blasphemous film about Christ.
The film entitled “The first temptation of Christ” was produced by Brazilian Youtube Group Portas Do Fondos. Netflix bought the film and aired it on their platform earlier this month as part of their holiday specials.
The film has offended the Christians as it made humorous accounts of Jesus Christ being gay. Other Netflix Petition signatories worldwide said the movie is “blasphemous”. Brazilian YouTube group,
In his recent tweet, the son of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, Eduardo Bolsonaro, described the film as “garbage” and has apologized to the public.
“We are sorry that this garbage got this far in Poland. They do not represent Brazilian society, and the repudiation of this film is coming from various parts,” He tweeted.

The “offensive” film
The deemed offensive film was added on December 3rd with the synopsis “Jesus, who’s hitting the big 3-0, brings a surprise guest to meet the family. A Christmas special so wrong, it must be from comedians Porta dos Fundos. Jesus (Gregório Duvivier) attends his 30th birthday surprise party with his boyfriend Orlando (Fábio Porchat).
The party, thrown by José (Rafael Portugal) and Maria (Evelyn Castro), has many high-profile biblical guests, including God (Antonio Tabet), which prompts plenty of debate about parental rights and responsibilities as Christ grapples not just with his parentage but with his own spiritual journey.”
As of now, there are more than 3 million people that have signed the petitions posted on different platforms.
“It is shocking to discover that Netflix has zero respect or consideration for those of the Christian faith regarding their decision to add The first temptation of Christ to their growing catalog of shows,” Nic Williams said. He is another petitioner in Change.org.
Williams emphasized that such mockery of Jesus should not be deemed as satire. He said it is an intentional attempt to attack the fundamental beliefs that uphold the Christian faith.
“It is anti-Christ in every sense of the word and a direct demonstration of hatred against all who profess to be Bible-believing Christians,” he added. He described the movie as a disgusting, highly offensive and blasphemous and is asking Netflix to ban the film as soon as possible.

More on the Netflix Petition
Meanwhile, another petitioner, Citizen Go, believed no one has the right to attack the faith of millions of people around the world. They called on Netflix to “remove this brutal attack on religious freedom”.
Other details of the movie that have offended the petitioners include Mary, The biblical Mother of God being portrayed as an adulterous woman. Citizen Go also said that in the film, one of Jesus’ followers, Mary Magdalene, was shown as smoking weed, and the apostles are rowdy drunks.
Thousands of Netflix customers have taken to social media, saying they will cancel their subscriptions.
Meanwhile, some petitions on Change.org has asked the producers, “Porta dos Fundos,” to be held responsible for the crime. The petitioners called it a crim of “villainous faith” in their Netflix Petitions.
The film’s producers have responded to the controversy to the media that claiming opposition to the movie is “homophobic”.
