Nikola Corporation, a leading innovator in the sustainable energy industry, announced that it has adjourned a shareholder meeting in order to allow more time to marshal support for a proposed resolution. The resolution, which would pave the way for a major green energy project, requires approval from a majority of shareholders.
The green energy project, which is being spearheaded by the Nikola Corporation, is aimed at creating a new energy infrastructure that will promote renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. To help finance the project, the company is seeking approval from shareholders to issue additional shares of common stock.
At the shareholder meeting, held on Tuesday, only a few shareholders were in attendance and, as a result, not enough votes were cast to reach the required majority. However, with further discussions and negotiations, Nikola is confident that shareholder support for the project can be achieved.
Nikola CEO Mark Stewart stated, “Although we were unable to gain the support we needed today, we remain committed to our vision of a sustainable energy future and are determined to marshal support for this resolution. We appreciate all of the shareholders who have shown their commitment through attending the meeting today and we look forward to continuing our dialogue with the others.”
The adjournment of the meeting comes shortly after the company made a major announcement to expand its green energy initiatives. It plans to invest $100 million in renewable energy projects over the next three years, in addition to establishing a $240 million fund to help spur green energy investments across the United States.
It is clear that Nikola Corporation is committed to creating a future powered by renewable energy sources. As such, it is hopeful that shareholders will embrace the resolution in order to help finance its green energy projects.
