Ada Hegerberg’s late withdrawal from the Norway team in their World Cup match against Switzerland was due to a groin injury, according to her representatives. Despite participating in the warm-up and lining up for the national anthems, Hegerberg quickly headed to the locker room just as Norway was breaking from their huddle. Sophie Roman Haug replaced her in the starting line-up, but the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Hegerberg felt tightness during the warm-up but thought she could still play. However, as she sprinted after the anthems, her groin became tighter, leading her to inform the staff that it would be better to have someone at 100% on the pitch. This decision was not caught on camera, causing online rumors to circulate. Hegerberg’s representatives clarified that she chose not to play solely due to the discomfort in her groin and to prevent the team from losing a substitution. She received quick treatment in the locker room. With one point from their first two games, Norway hopes Hegerberg will be fit for their final group game against the Philippines. Switzerland will face New Zealand in a match between the group leaders.
