The original PopcornTime app brought joy to millions of media consumers through free-flowing BitTorrent streaming. It was only a matter of time before it was shut down, but the PopcornTime concept predictably branched off into various directions and one of them has jumped into Apple territory. For now, it’s available only on jailbroken iPhones.
After several respectable imitators bit the dust, time4popcorn.eu has managed to develop and improve over time. It can be accessed through the Cydia platform on jailbroken iPhones. Developers are working on a version that will work with non-jailbroken phones, but that will take time.
In a TorrentFreak interview, a PopcornTime developer said, “After only 5.5 months, Popcorn Time is available on all major platforms! And this is only the beginning. Our future plans are huge.”
The app in iOS is missing some features, but that’s to be expected in its infancy stages. Chromecast and Apple TV support are still being worked on and progressed is being made on a daily basis.
Hollywood is very away of the waves that PopcornTime is making the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has already succeeded in shutting down two popular PopcornTime forks and cited that the apps are hurting motion picture studios on a wide scale. Nonetheless, remaining PopcornTime forks are drawing in more viewers regularly and show no signs of voluntarily closing up shop in the near future.
