Bethancourt added to the lead with his 11th home run in the fourth inning. Zack Littell started for the Rays and allowed only one hit in each of the first five innings, but couldn’t finish the sixth after a throwing error and a wild pitch. The Blue Jays took advantage of the Rays’ mistakes and scored four runs in the sixth inning, with George Springer hitting a two-run double and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Cavan Biggio driving in one run each. The Rays’ defense came through in the seventh inning when left fielder Ramirez threw out Whit Merrifield at home on a one-hop throw.
