2019 was yet another year that witnessed the advancement of technology & trends in various aspects. Talking about the internet of things, smart appliances, smart homes, and smart vehicles were the frontrunner as people divulged into new domains of the tech world.

With more digital population come more chances of data theft. Therefore, Data privacy and other threats concerned people with privacy and security issues. Many big names like Microsoft & Google, however, assured Data Security for the consumers.

New Technology Trends in 2019

5G and Foldable Smartphones

‘Samsung’ & ‘Huawei’ were the smartphone leaders in 2019 apart from the Apple iPhone. More so because they introduced the revolutionary & much-awaited foldable smartphones in the market. The Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X were unveiled this year. They presented a great new concept which enables you to fold your smartphone and put it in the pocket. Even OPPO, Motorola came out with the foldable smartphone sets.

2019 was the time to switch on to 5th generation networks. However, owing to limited network range services, costly 5G smartphones, and limited bands, it seems the carriers would label this as a testing phase. We will wait to see more in 2020 if the 5G technology can be a game-changer.

Deep Fakes a Boon or Bane

Deep fakes were on a roll where some were used as hilarious videos and notorious activities, and others were creepy, which intended for fake information broadcast or misinformed campaigns. Though such deep fakes have created quite a menace on the internet and social media, its misuse and harms can be anticipated in the coming years.

With the increasing popularity of Netflix and Amazon streaming services, most brands joined the bandwagon by introducing their streaming services. There was a revolution in the arena of streaming apps as people switched over to web content.

A creative video sharing app got the unabated attention of smartphone users with an enormous 1.5 billion downloads worldwide in 2019. What attracts the people to TikTok is the ability to lip sync the video with one’s creative ability and become famous through a few seconds of video online. It is very common nowadays to spot kids and other people making Tik Tok videos while at parks or workplaces or while driving too.

Much in vogue in 2019, virtual assistants were everyone’s favorite. Home virtual assistants like ‘Google Mini’ and ‘Amazon Echo’ brought an affordable range of AI-based speakers. Smart wearable’s like smartwatches, earbuds were a hit this year.

Electric cars

Though electric vehicles (EVs) are a known concept, 2019 saw a significant increase in the launch and sale of electric vehicles. Norway had majority sales for electric cars this year, while China too is progressing in the sale & use of electric vehicles. The United States saw a huge jump in the sale of EVs.

Premium brands like Audi, Porche, Jaguar, BMW, in addition to Kia, Chevrolet & more launched electric cars, which went on to become the highest-rated cars.
