We all knew that yet another Transformers movie was in the works. The director of the series, Michael Bay, just won’t let the Autobots and Decepticons rest (rust?) in peace. In his defense it’s for a good reason, the giant robots rake in a ton of cash. To build up hype for Bay’s latest installment in the series, Transformers: The Last Knight, he released a photo of the all new Bumblebee which is based on the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro.
Bee is back! @generalmotors really got it done with this custom-built 2016 Camaro. #transformers pic.twitter.com/t8NkOQlqc5

This time, however, Bumblebee isn’t simply a stock yellow Camaro with black racing stripes and accents. This time, Bay decided the friendly Autobot needed a more over the top look. General Motors built a special one-off custom Camaro specifically for the movie. It features a custom hood, front bumper cover, (possibly) rear bumper cover, fenders, rear spoiler, and front splitter. On top of this, the car sits on gloss black HRE wheels.
The picture featured in the tweet already has the internet crying “blasphemy!”, due to how over the top and distasteful the modifications are. There’s no doubt the 2016 Camaro is a gorgeous car and is aesthetically a vast improvement over the previous generation of the car. This has a lot of people wondering, why fix something that isn’t broken? Your answer can most likely be found through a quick examination of the director’s personality.
If you are one of the few who actually find the custom Bumblebee to be appealing, there’s sadly no news currently on whether the Transformer’s body “enhancements” will be available for aftermarket purchase or as an option from the dealership in the future. Seeing the amount of ridicule the new look is getting, don’t hold your breath.
The exact model of Camaro the new Bumblebee is based on has yet to be confirmed. From a pure marketing standpoint, the new SS or ZL1 would both be safe bets. Expect to see the customized Camaro zipping across the big screen, fighting to save the planet (yet again), starting June 23, 2017.
