Social media has spoken, and they want ESPN correspondent, Britt McHenry, fired for her actions toward a parking attendant.
Despite being suspended from reporting, fans and social media are demanding that more serious action should be brought upon McHenry after a video surfaced online of the reporter belittling a parking lot attendant when she found out her car was being towed.
In the video she was seen yelling and saying, “With no education, no skillset… Do you feel good about your job? So I could be a college dropout and do the same thing? Why, cause I have a brain and you don’t?”
Those on Twitter immediately responded to the news that she was only being suspended. @coryrothschild writes, “Whoever decided to only suspend Britt McHenry for one week should be suspended. Absolutely inadequate punishment,” while @lindzconnolly states, “If @espn does not fire Britt McHenry I would be very disappointed. Berating someone’s teeth, job, education and weight is disgusting!”
Mchenry then went to Twitter to address and apologize for her actions to those calling her out; McHenry writes, “I allowed my emotions to get the best of me and said some insulting and regrettable things. As frustrated as I was, I should always choose to be respectful and take the high road. I am so sorry for my actions and will learn from this mistake.”
While McHenry apologized people on Twitter did not believe that the reporter was truly sorry, and felt that she was only sorry because she was caught on film for who she really is; @rachealg1023 writes, “@BrittMcHenry dont use “an intense & stressful time” to justify your entitled tantrum. @espn should be ashamed. #firebrittmchenry.”
At the moment McHenry is still just suspended for her actions, and it is unclear whether or not the voices on Twitter will change her current employment with the sports station.
