According to Connolly and local police, a person wielding a baseball bat attacked two staff members in the district office of Democratic U.S. Representative Gerry Connolly in northern Virginia on Monday.
Connolly is a member of the United States House of Representatives.
The suspect who went to Connolly’s office and asked for the congressman has been taken into custody, according to a Fairfax City Police statement.
“The thought that someone would take advantage of my staff’s accessibility to commit an act of violence is unconscionable and devastating,” said Connolly in a statement.
“The thought that someone would use my staff’s accessibility to commit an act of violence is unconscionable and devastating.”
According to him, both employees were taken to the hospital with minor injuries that did not endanger their lives.
Connolly, 73, has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2009, representing a district that includes Virginia suburbs west of Washington, DC.
