U2’s tour manager since the 80’s has passed away. Dennis Sheehan was 69 and died in his hotel room in West Hollywood. Paramedics were called to come to the Sunset Marquis after he was unresponsive in the early morning. When the paramedics got there however, Sheehan was pronounced dead at the scene.
On the band’s website Live Nation’s CEO of global touring, Arthur Fogel, confirmed that Sheehan had passed away. Bono released a statement saying, “We’ve lost a family member, we’re still taking it in. He wasn’t just a legend in the music business, he was a legend in our band. He is irreplaceable.”
Sheehan grew up in Ireland and during his early teen years played in a band. Later Sheehan became more involved with behind the scenes of music. Sheehan has worked with other bands like Led Zeppelin. Sheehan has been working with U2 before the release of their album “War” in 1983. They have been working together ever since.
During their performance at The Forum in Los Angeles Wednesday night Bono paid his respects to their longtime tour manager. “Last night, we lost a member of our family,” the singer told the crowd. “Dennis Sheehan was his name. He was U2’s tour manager for 33 years. He loved, as we all do, the city of Los Angeles, and he called the Sunset Marquis his ‘home away from home.’ He came to this city as a young man in the ‘70s, working for Led Zeppelin. He always thought maybe U2 could be the next Led Zeppelin, which, of course, is impossible.”
The cause of death is unknown to the public.
