Uber now has a new independent board member, according to a new SEC filing; she is the CEO of Flex, Revathi Advaithi, which is one of the biggest electronic manufacturers in the world.
Advaithi is a mechanical engineer who grew up with four sisters. She got appointed to the new job after spending around ten years with the electronic manufacturing company Eaton, where she overviewed the electrical business.
Before this, she remained at Honeywell for six years.
Advaithi has come to Uber at a really tough time. At one time, Huawei was the biggest customer of Flex, for which it provides products poke 5G base stations and smartphones. However, the U.S. government banned U.S. firms last year. Moreover, it also banned around 25% American components from doing business with Huawei.
Today, Flex has a market cap of around $5 billion. Its shares became quite high in 2018, however, they fell to around $10 a share before Advaithi came on board.
The coronavirus pandemic has also put pressure on the supply chains of Flex, even when the company is diversifying its factories.
Currently, Advaithi is Uber’s third female director. Recently, the company announced that it had selected Mandy Ginsberg on the board. Previously. Ginsberg was the CEO of the dating app company, MatchGroup. However, she stepped back after a tornado hit her home in Dallas, and she underwent surgery.
In 2017, Uber appointed the Nestle executive, Wang Ling Martello, to its board. Martello resigned from Nestle in 2018.
The famous Entrepreneur, Arianna Huffington, was first brought to Uber’s backroom by the CEO, Travis Kalanick. She left the company in 2019 and stated that her media company, Thrive Global, was the main reason for her departure. One of her main accomplishments was her deal with SoftBank in 2017.
Revathi Advaithi started her career in the U.S. several decades ago as a floor supervisor in Oklahoma. She became the CEO of Flex last
year when the long term chief, Michael McNamara, resigned to join the capital firm Eclipse.
