Ukraine will speed up advance on southern front -commander

Ukrainian forces fighting in the south have reportedly broken through the most challenging line of Russian defenses, giving them the opportunity to advance more rapidly. Despite launching a counteroffensive in June, the Ukrainian troops have faced significant obstacles, including well-prepared Russian defense lines and minefields, which have slowed their progress towards the Sea of Azov.

On Wednesday, Ukrainian forces announced that they had raised the national flag in the settlement of Robotyne, located in the southern Zaporizhzhia region. This settlement is approximately 10 km south of the frontline town of Orikhiv. The commander leading the troops into Robotyne, known as “Kombat,” emphasized that their goal is not just Robotyne but the Sea of Azov itself. He stated that their next targets are the town of Berdiansk and beyond.

Robotyne is situated about 100 km from Berdiansk, a port on the Sea of Azov, and 85 km from the strategic city of Melitopol, both of which are currently occupied by Russian forces. However, Moscow has not confirmed Ukraine’s advancement into Robotyne. A U.S. official expressed skepticism about Ukrainian forces’ ability to retake Melitopol in their counteroffensive, which aims to divide Russian forces in the south.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy defended Ukraine’s strategy, dismissing concerns about the thin spread of troops and reiterating his belief in the eventual recovery of all Ukrainian territory seized by Moscow. “Kombat” expressed confidence that the Ukrainian forces would make faster progress from this point forward, as they have passed the main mined roads and are entering territories with fewer Russian defenses.

The commander noted that there are still two houses under Russian control in Robotyne, but they are actively fighting to regain control. He emphasized that their objective is to liberate all Ukrainian territories and move forward in their campaign.

In conclusion, Ukrainian forces have achieved a breakthrough in the south, allowing them to advance more quickly. Their focus is not just on capturing Robotyne but on reaching the Sea of Azov. Despite facing challenges, they remain determined to regain control of all Ukrainian territories.
