Hackers have managed to allow NES Classic Edition users to play SNES, Sega Genesis games, and a whole assortment of other games as well, which isn’t surprising in the slightest.
The NES Classic Edition only comes with thirty games. For those who don’t know, some of the games include Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Kirby, Metroid, and Pac-man. Moreover, some gamers might not like their selection of games. In other words, they feel constricted by only being able to lay certain games. Due to limitations, gamers are going to find other uses for the Classic edition, namely hacking it.
They first found a way to install NES games onto the console. Then soon after, they were able to install, SNES, Game Boy, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy Advance games.
Although they have modified this console, it does indeed come at a price. Chances are you can ruin your NES Classic Edition in the process.
Maybe perhaps had Nintendo included an online shop, they would not have to worry about users wanting to hack it. Users would be able to buy their own games.
Take the PS3 for example. When Sony put limitations on the PS3, after they dropped Linux, it was basically an invitation for users to hack their PS3. Gaming companies should consider thinking twice before putting limitations on consoles. This is not to say that users still won’t be compelled to hack; there just won’t be as many. In addition, they will make more money if they open up an online shop.
The Nintendo Switch, however, will be region free, which means there will be no reason to do any modifications pertaining to the region. Nintendo might also want to open up a virtual console as soon as the Switch launches. This will hinder a lot of people from hacking the system.
