According to the agreement, an asylum seeker who has set foot in Guatemala must apply in Guatemala and remain there, until a U.S. immigration judge takes a decision on his case. Furthermore, anyone transits from Guatemala is no longer eligible to request asylum in the United States since the American administration finds that this country has all the prerequisites to rescue all those fleeing persecution at home.
Some observers find this agreement outrageous. They ironicize that President Trump seems to have magic hands. At such a point, it can transform one of the most dangerous countries in the world into a safe place to welcome foreigners seeking the protection of another country. According to studies, this country hosts the third-highest rate of femicide worldwide.
