Ford has received over 10,000 applications for their new limited production super car, the 2017 Ford GT. The six-cylinder EcoBoost super car has a MSRP of around $400,000 USD and claims to have the highest horsepower to weight ratio of any production car we’ve seen to date.
Sadly, even if you’re one of the lucky few that has the finances to spend on a car like this, you may be sorely disappointed. The Ford GT is being limited 500 models in its first wave of production, meaning there will be over 9500 potential customers left with an empty space in their garage after Ford decides who is “worthy” of owning the GT.
A handful of Applicants went to even greater lengths to express their desires to own the Ford GT by submitting a video along with their applications. These videos ranged from emotional requests, racing footage of their children and even garage tours showing how dedicated to the ford brand the hopefuls were.
According to motor1.com, Ford only wanted the most passionate enthusiasts to be proud owners of the car and not just any one who had the financial means to do so. That means you’re not likely to see one of the Kardashians cruising around town in one. Only 500 die hard Ford racing enthusiasts from around the world will be hand chosen within the next 90 days to own this historical masterpiece.
In reality, the majority of the first production run Ford GTs are likely to go to those directly affiliated to professional ford racing teams who are interested. Only a very small number is likely to make its way to the general public during this first run. For those of us who aren’t able to afford the six-figure price tag, we’ll just have to wait to catch a glimpse of the Ford GT soaring down the straights of Le Mans.
