Warner Bros. has officially released the teaser trailer for the new Blade Runner sequel film. Blade Runner 2049 shows a first look at Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford in the new 2017 film.
Ford is reprising his previous character, Rick Deckard, in the trailer. The teaser has Ford commenting ominously that “replicants are like any other machine, they’re either a benefit or hazard”.
Gosling’s Los Angeles Officer character is shown walking throughout the dystopian landscape of the futuristic world. He then lands into a deserted building where he encounters Deckard.
Ford then tells Gosling’s character that “I did your job once. I was good at it.” As Ford approaches Gosling with a gun, Gosling replies that “things were simpler then.”
The film was directed by Denis Villeneuve. Blade Runner 2049 is set to star Robin Wright, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, and Carla Juri. The film also features Dave Bautista and Barkhad Abdi.
The new sequel’s storyline is set thirty years after the events of the original 1982 Blade Runner film. Ryan Gosling plays an LA Police Department Officer named K.
Gosling’s character is the new blade runner who will unearth a secret that has the potential to ruin the futuristic society. He then embarks on a quest to find Deckard, a former LAPD blade runner who has been presumed missing for three decades.
The screenplay was written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. The script follows Fancher and David People’s original story.
The original Blade Runner film was set in Los Angeles 2019 and followed Deckard as he pursued replicants from another colony.
The previous film was directed by Ridley Scott, who is now serving as an executive producer for the sequel. Frank Giustra, Tim Gamble and Bill Carraro will join Scott as the film’s executive producers.
Sony Pictures and Alcon Entertainment are co-financing the film. Warner Bros is distributing the new sequel domestically. Alcon Entertainment is expected to distribute the film overseas.
Blade Runner 2049 has a theatrical release date of October 6th 2017.
