While a Texas court examines a nationwide ban on the sale of the abortion pill mifepristone, the state of Washington revealed on Tuesday that it has purchased a three-year supply of the drug.
According to an official statement made last month, the Democratic governor of the state ordered the Department of Corrections, which has a pharmacy license, purchase the medication.
Also, it was indicated that the whole shipment had arrived on March 31.
In the near future, U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk in Amarillo, Texas may issue an order compelling the FDA to reassess its 22-year-old approval of a drug used in the most common kind of abortion in the United States.
Jay Inslee, governor of Washington, said that the purchase provides “continuous access” for all patients in his state and that health care choices should be decided between patients and physicians, not by a Texas court.
