Another brawl happened in the MLB on Tuesday night. This one between the Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles. It started when Yordano Ventura threw a fastball right at Manny Machado and Machado charged the mound. Machado was limping out to the mound when he was going out there. Ventura threw the punch and missed then Machado connected with a punch and Ventura went to the ground. The benches and the bullpens cleared for this. Machado and Ventura were both ejected from the game.
Yordano Ventura was averaging 96-98 MPH with his fastball all night. The one he threw at Machado was 99 MPH. And when you watch the video of it, you can easily tell Ventura put a little extra on that one on purpose. After both players were ejected and after Rougned Odor was suspended earlier this year for throwing a punch, expect both of these players to be suspended. Ventura for throwing at Machado and then throwing a punch, and Machado for charging the mound and throwing a punch.
The Royals are quickly building a reputation as a dirty team, and specifically Ventura. “I knew it was going to happen. The guy has electric stuff but between the ears, there is a circuit board off balance,” said Adam Jones, Machado’s teammate. He also added, “He wants to be Pedro Martinez, go out there and have a damn sub 2.00. Don’t go out and try to hurt somebody.” Interestingly enough, it is now being reported that the Royals have been recently offering Yordano Ventura in trades to other teams. Jeff Passan of rushhourdaily.com Sports reported that “his attitude is wearing thin on the Kansas City organization,” and “executives from at least two other teams say that the Royals have offered to deal Ventura away within the last month.” So after yet another incident, it will be interesting to see if the Royals are still looking to trade him, and if they are, if any team is even interested. But one thing is now clear with all of Ventura’s incidents, the Royals are growing tired of it.
