Feet are probably one of the most neglected areas of our body. Let’s face it, they are not the most alluring body parts and are likely not even completely visible. To say the least, we tend to put our feet on the line a lot and while they do so much for us, we often ignore many of the signs of strife they provide in order to look sexy, save money or get out the door quicker. If any time is the time to respect your feet, it’s during the summer when they will be even more on display than usual. Try to realize the importance of your feet and invest in them doing these 6 things:
1.Take a break from your heels.
Most women love a beautiful pair of heels -many even practically live in them. High heels have been a fashion statement for hundreds of years but what they do to the muscles and bones in feet, as well as ankles, knees, hips and spine, is harsh. Bunions, corns, calluses and hammer toes are common outcomes of wearing high heels over two inches on a regular basis. Don’t give up the heels, just give them a rest from time to time.
2. Don’t go full on flat.
Flip flops, ballet flats and flat sandals are very popular, especially in the summer. With stores like H&M and Forever 21 selling stylish flats at cheap prices, you are sure to be tempted to make a purchase. However, keep in mind that flat shoes may hurt your feet if you are on them for a significant amount of time because there is no arch support and hardly any cushioning for the soles of your feet.
3. Avoid going barefoot too often.
Besides the fact that by going barefoot you are prone to many injuries (you wouldn’t want to step on broken glass), there is also the possibility that you can pick up bacteria and fungal infections. Walking around your home or on a beach barefoot is one thing, but then there’s going into a gas station bathroom without shoes on – don’t be like that Britney.
4. Get a professional pedicure.
No one can fix your toe nails like a professional, mostly speaking in regards to preventing ingrown toe nails. Plus, the feeling of a fresh pedicure can make you feel like a brand new woman.
5. Get comfortable walking shoes.
Walking requires most of the work to be done by your feet. What you wear when you’re doing a lot of walking should be shoes that provide cushion for your soles, support for your ankles and should be flexible to make the walking easy.
6. Scrub and moisturize.
The skin on your feet should look and feel smooth. No one wants to see crusty feet. Make it a routine when you are in the shower to use foot scrub and a pumice stone. Once you are out, rub in a good moisturizer over and under your feet. Now you are free to play footsies with that special person -someone else or yourself.
