An Open Letter to President Trump on His Recent Adventurism in Iran

Mr. President,

I know you’re very fond of soft and juicy burgers, but let me assure you that Iran is not a McBurger. It is a hard nut to crack.

Obviously, it is naïve to distinguish right or wrong in international politics. Neither you’re wrong in containing Iran, nor Iran is wrong in outgrowing your influence.

But these are no good times, Mr. President, for opening another front, especially when your country has yet to recover from the recent embarrassments of Afghanistan.

Iraq is also not a success story if you’re forgetting. Its recent parliamentary decision to oust your forces from Iraq is too far from being a dignified withdrawal. After all, you killed a man in its territory, revered by the majority Shia population of Iraq, and entire Iran.

Trust me; I’m neither an Iranian nor an Iraqi citizen. I’m also not a US citizen who ever voted for the Democrats. So, spare me from any reproach of being biased.

Yet, Iranians might be bad people as they are trying to achieve what you got decades ago. I can even support your country for realizing, though too late, the destructiveness of nuclear weapons.

I even admit that wars become inevitable sometimes when diplomacy fails. But even wars have ethics, and you’re an ethical person if I’m not mistaken!

Your recent statement of threatening the cultural sites of Iran, however, suggested a course beyond war ethics or even the propriety of a saner mind. It was more like grabbing an opponent, in a one-to-one fight, by his private parts.

Still, I can appreciate your patience you showed the past summer when your compassion almost averted a war with Iran. Your orders stopped the airstrike at the last minute.

That sanity needs to prevail over you again whenever you say some reckless words, for which you are more famous in your country than as the resident of the White House.

Kindly choose your opponent wisely if you intend to win a war: Iran is not Iraq or Afghanistan.

You can see how the killing of an individual, howsoever important, incurred such a reaction that there are raining rockets around your forces in Iraq.

Remember: your economy is dwindling and war is expensive, and Iran has nothing to lose. Choose both your words and actions wisely as they could have global impacts.

Let the presidential election be a domestic affair of the United States. Let’s not make the world suffer if the Democrats don’t like your face, or found you doing something “cheeky” in Ukraine.

Mr. President,

It is high time your country needs to review its foreign policy. For making America great should not come at the expense of global peace.

As a superpower, your country has greater responsibilities to cater to. If the world is a community, the UN is its mother, and your country, the big brother.

Let your mother decide the matters that belong to her. Let her look after her children, the other nations of the world. As a big brother, your country has responsibilities to take care of your siblings too.

Yet, I admit that at times, you have made laudable, and even surprising steps. Undoubtedly, stepping into the North Korean territory shook the world as much as it positively shocked Mr. Kim.

But let me remind you that your country followed diplomacy with North Korea in 2017 after your beloved Kim had wrapped a gift for you.

Probably, Iran also wants to imitate the North Korean gift of Huwasong 15 to purchase your friendship or at least diplomacy.

Don’t forget, Iran has no such divisions that provoked you to attack Afghanistan and Iraq. Despite the internal divisions of both countries, you failed to effect a successful in either of the country.

I conclude this letter to President Trump in the hope it makes him a broader outlook, from making America great again to make the world great.
