For Apple fanatics, the long wait is finally over. The new iPhones are here. They have curved edges and bigger screens, answering a major gripe from Apple loyalists. The iPhone 6 screen measure 4.7 inches, while the iPhone 6 Plus screen is 5.5 inches.
The Plus version comes equipped with what Apple calls “Retina HD.” It comes jam-packed with 2 million pixels, which equates to double the 5S’s pixel count. The iPhone six has more than 1 million pixels, which is about 33% more than the 5S model.
The wider dimensions of the iPhone have made room for a larger battery, which has upped battery life noticeably. The iPhone 6 can play 11 hours of video watching. The iPhone Plus can accommodate an impressive 14 hours of video playback. Those are great numbers considering that the 5S only managed 10 hours of video playback.
The iPhone 6 comes with new iOS8 software that has changed very little from iOS7. One standout addition in iOS8 is an expansive HealthKit application that keeps track of a user’s heart rate, sleep patterns, and blood pressure. HomeKit will also be featured with iOS8, a platform that will enable users to control various items and appliances with their iPad or iPhone.
Current iPhone users will have the opportunity to purchase the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus on Sept. 17. New model iPhones will be available across the U.S. and internationally on Sept. 19. The 16GB iPhone 6 goes for $199. The 64GB model costs $299. A step up to 128 GB will cost $399. The iPhone 6 Plus starts at $299. Apple will drop the price for the 5S and 5C model by $100.
