Surfing champion, Bethany Hamilton, and husband, Adam Dirks, have welcomed their first child. The bundle of joy’s name is Tobias, and Hamilton explained that the baby was named after his great grandpa. When he was born, June 1, Tobias weighed 7 lbs., 9 oz and was 21 inches long.
The announcement came Monday with a tweet from Hamilton with a photo of the couple with the newest addition to their family. Along with the caption “Blessed to welcome our son, Tobias, into the world! #astokedmomma.” Hamilton first announced she was pregnant back in February with a video.
Hamilton lost her left arm when she was 13 from a shark atack. In the video of her pregnancy video she said that

“I’ve been thinking about it, but I often forget that I have one arm.” If she can go back to surfing after a shark attack she is up for the challenge of taking care of a baby”
Of course she will have the help from her husband as well. He has also expressed how excited he is about being a new dad. Dirks has said
“As we start traveling more, getting into surfing, I know I’m going to be there to support my wife and support our family and do what I can … changing diapers on the beach while Bethany is out there surfing some gnarly wave.”
