Brian Sicknick, a US Capitol police officer who died during the Congress siege by the Trump-supporters and far-right organizations, will lie in honor at the same location. Following his death, the police department said in a statement that Brian was injured while physically engaging with demonstrators. Unfortunately, he succumbed to severe injuries and died the next day.
The police officer was among the five people who died during the unusual chaos in Washington, which eventually led to Trump’s historic second impeachment. Senator majority leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated that officer Sicknick would lie in honor in the US Capitol. The Democrats said in a statement that the Congress is united in grief and solemn appreciation for the sacrifice and service of the brave officer.

The statement further added that the heroism of the fallen officer and the police department defended the American temple of democracy and ensured that the US Congress was not diverted from its duty. On January 2, a ceremonial arrival will take place, and members of Congress and Capitol police officers will be invited to attend the event. Meanwhile, the details about the officer’s death remain unclear.
The US Capitol police maintained that Sicknick sustained injuries while on duty. On the other hand, the local media reported that during the US Congress breach, the officer was hit with a fire extinguisher. But these reports remain unconfirmed.
Following the deadly riots, the House of Representatives impeachment Donald Trump for the second time, and his Senate trial is expected to begin in the second week of February. Experts suggest that if found guilty, the lawmakers could ban him from holding public office again. Meanwhile, the FBI is continuing its investigations into the riots and has arrested and charged dozens of people.
