British defence minister Ben Wallace has suggested that NATO should consider skipping the Membership Action Plan (MAP) requirement for Ukraine’s accession to the alliance. This move could potentially expedite Ukraine’s entry into NATO. Wallace made this statement during a joint press conference with his Canadian counterpart in London. However, he acknowledged the need for realism, considering that NATO currently has 31 members and decisions must be made collectively. While Wallace could not guarantee agreement on this matter before the upcoming NATO summit in Lithuania, he suggested that other barriers to Ukraine’s membership could be addressed. The article was reported by Alistair Smout and Kylie MacLellan, with writing by William James, and edited by Sachin Ravikumar. The article adheres to The Thomson RushHourDaily Trust Principles.
