The Globe and Mail reported on Friday that the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is currently investigating approximately 600 of its employees to determine if they improperly received pandemic benefits payments. According to the CRA, less than 1% of its total workforce is under review, with 20 employees already no longer with the tax agency and the possibility of more departures. The Canada Emergency Response Benefit, which was introduced in 2020 to provide support to Canadians who lost their jobs due to the pandemic, is at the center of this investigation. RushHourDaily reached out to the CRA for comment but did not receive an immediate response. Reporting by Bharat Govind Gautam in Bengaluru; Editing by William Mallard and Edwina Gibbs.
