When you’re feeling particularly emotional about something going on in your life, it may be hard to think about anything else. Whether it’s the butterflies flitting around in your stomach or the tears welling up in you’re eyes, it’s nearly impossible to keep emotions to yourself. Sometimes you need to vent (angrily) to you’re friend. Other times you just need to cuddle up with your pup and cry. Emotions can be confusing, but if you’re feeling particularly passionate about a situation and don’t want to freak out your friends or family members with your feelings, there’s something introverted that you can do: listen. Listen to what you ask? Songs. Chances are there’s been a song written about however you’re feeling (Taylor Swift has you covered for sure).
So next time you’re feeling overemotional and you don’t want to talk about (and your dog is at the vet), then cuddle up in your bed and put on some music. Listen to the lyrics, and get inspiration from the words. Music is a beautiful art form that artists use to express themselves. Just knowing that another person in the world is going through the same thing you are, should make you feel so much better. The journal Trends in Cognitive Science suggests that listening to music can be physiologically healthy for your brain. So lay back, put on your favorite song, and let the words flow over you. You’ll be feeling emotionally recharged in no time.
