Just this morning, Friday, May 18th, a school in Southeast Texas was under fire. Reportedly, at least 8 people were killed, students and faculty, with the police still searching the school for any more dead or injured. The shooter as of now is unidentified to the public, but it is known that they were taken into custody amid the bloodbath, and another suspect was also detained for questioning.

The shooting, which occurred before 8 am CDT Time, disrupting the day before it had even really started. Students in an art room recounted the gunman barging in and amid the chaos of running for their lives, 3 shots were fired. And then another 4.

This was the 22nd school shooting this year, a record for the number of school shootings in a year since 1999. It also occurred only 3 months after what is now known as the Parkland Massacre.

According to Washington Post, since the tragic Columbine High Massacre, there has been a reported death of 139 children, educators and others during the shootings, and over 200 severely injured. When will it end?

This is what millions of people across America are asking as we see another school’s innocence ripped to shreds with the tragic loss of life. Parkland Massacre survivors have posted a message of support that I think everyone, not just those directly involved, should hear and abide by.

“We are deepely saddened by the tragedy at Sante Fe High School and send our love and support to the families affected as well as the entire community. Though this is the 22ndschool shooting this year, we urge those reading this not to sweep it under the rug and forget. This is not the price of our freedom. This is the most fatal shooting since the one at our school and tragedies like this will continue to happen unless action is taken.”

Sante Fe, we are with you, and we will do whatever we can to support you as the days go on.”

About Furaha Njoroge

A little about me. I have been writing since my 2nd grade teacher praised my writing and recommended me for a writing program, in which my articles were published. Ever since then, I have just been writing short stories, and about prevalent things that occur within my life. Besides these, my hobbies include watching Scandal and Friends :), reading a good book that both challenges me and makes me laugh, and hanging with my best friends in the Claremont Village or the city (Both Atlanta and LA).
