In a further intensified breakdown between U.S. and Iran, Iran fired Missiles on 2 U.S. bases in Iraq. Around 20-22 missiles were fired at 1:30 a.m. local time on Wednesday morning. This has come hours after the burial of Gen ‘Soleimani’ on Tuesday, Jan 07, 2020.
The Iranian top General ‘Qasem Soleimani’ was killed in a U.S. Drone Strike in Baghdad last week on the orders of American President ‘Donald Trump’.
Iran Top Officials pledges to avenge Soleimani’s death
In the burial, which was done at Soleimani’s hometown, ‘Kerman,’ top Iranian officials vowed revenge for the General’s killing. Revolutionary Guards Top general, ‘Maj Gen Hossein Salami,’ addressed the crowds assembled there. He said that the ‘Martyr Qasem Soeimani’ is now more powerful after his death.
After the missile attacks, the Revolutionary Guards has issued a bold statement. They have stated that Iran has conducted ground to ground missile attacks at US military bases in Iraq. They also threatened the U.S. against any retaliation; otherwise, the latter will also face retaliation.
Trump says ‘All is Well,’ will address the nation on Wednesday Morning
The Pentagon has confirmed the attack on 2 U.S. Bases in Iraq, namely ‘Al Asad’ and ‘Irbil’ airbase. On the contrary, American President Donald Trump’s first reaction to the attacks has come through a tweet saying that “All is well”. He further stated that the situation is being monitored, and he will give a full statement early morning on Wednesday.
There has been no clarity on the number of causalities and damage as yet. Also, Iraq has stated that no troops have been killed.
Iran states the act as retaliation to Soleimani’s Killing
Meanwhile, Iranian State TV also confirmed that Iran fired missiles and has called the act as a retaliation of General Soleimani’s killing by the Iran Military. The Iranian state TV has also broadcast ed images of the same. Although Iran state media stated that there had been 80 causalities in the attack, the Iraqi and U.S. authorities denied the same.
The Foreign minister of Iran ‘Javad Zarif’ also tweeted about Iran’s Missile attack calling it a measure of Self Defence against the U.S. troops based in Iraq. Citing the act under Article 51 of the UN Charter, he has justified the missile attack as a defense against the armed military who have targeted Iran’s citizens and top officials. He nevertheless mentioned that Iran does not seek war or escalation.
The Iranian foreign minister was recently denied Visa by the U.S. authorities to visit the country. His was intending to address the UN meet later this week in U.S. United States has now banned U.S. airlines from flying over Iran and Iraq after the missile attacks.
