Lupe Gajardo’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week show went amazingly well, and Gajardo herself exited the runway looking happy and proud in her all black ensemble. Gajardo—originally from Santiago Chile—lets her ethnic roots reign free when it comes to her designs. Dubbed American fashion’s “prodigy child, Gajardo has impressed fashionistas within the industry as well as critics.
Her 2015 Fall/Winter collection featured natural tones and loose fit clothing. The show’s program read, “Birds and the homeless. The streets. Dressing out of necessity. Layers upon layers. The beauty of authenticity. The freedom that is granted by chaos. The wandering. The unpretentious. Her clothing seems to emit the very aura of those words. The natural and muted tones sported by models wearing only flat-bottomed shoes rang true throughout the Lincoln Center. Patchwork jeans and skirts, light washed denim and toga-esque dresses gave off an eccentric light mood with a classic urban feel. Her featured clothes certainly had an unpretentious vibe to them thanks to all the earthy tones and light denim. One could almost say the entire show had a Bohemian feel, with an obvious hint of her charming Santiago flare.
