Jillian McCabe of Oregon, confessed to throwing her six year old autistic son from a bridge. After she did so, she called police to turn herself in. The body of her son London, was found several hours later.
McCabe was suffering from a mental breakdown due to the troubles of her sons severe autism and the illness of her husband, who was recently diagnosed with MS. Having to take care of both, McCabe was pushed to her limits.
Family rushed to her rescue sometime ago and provided funds as well as began a charity in order to help the family. They also paid for counseling for McCabe as she was becoming a threat to herself.
According to NBC News, “It was terrible what we went through to get her the help she did get,” she said. “We worked full-time to get her the services but obviously they weren’t sufficient.
She continued, “Jillian was always so patient with him, and loving. She really had a lot of compassion for his condition. When he was screaming at the top of his lungs, which was the only way he could communicate, she didn’t get upset at all. She would calmly comfort him, and I was amazed at how patient she was. So this was shocking and heart breaking.”
A spectator near Yaquina Bay Bridge called the police when he discovered a body had floated ashore near the lounge he was eating at. McCabe was arrested for 1st degree manslaughter as well as aggravated murder. Her bail was set at $750,000.
“We’re all devastated,” Andrew McCabe, London’s uncle, told NBC News. “London was a good kid. He loved hats. And his Dad.”
