Olympic gold medalist, Michael Phelps, 29, admits he has a problem. After a recent arrest for drinking and driving, Phelps will be taking part in a six-week rehabilitation treatment plan.
Phelps released a statement on his official Twitter account indicating his recognition that this was not his first incident. He will be taking time away from swimming to focus on his personal life.
Phelps was pulled over last Tuesday for speeding, 84 mph in a 45 zone, outside the Fort McHenry Tunnel, DUI and crossing double lines. According to reports, the swimmers blood alcohol was 0.14 and reports indicate that he was unable to pass multiple sobriety tests provided by police.
This is not the first time Phelps has had trouble with alcohol. He was caught in 2004 for a DUI in Salisbury, Maryland. He was put on an 18-month probation period. Some tome later, he was caught smoking marijuana at a social outing with friends.
Phelps is a 22-time Olympic medalist and also known as the most decorated Olympian in history.
