This past Tuesday, President and First Lady Obama made a visit to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, paying their respects to the recently deceased Saudi King Abdullah. The relationship between our two countries must stay strong at this point, united against terrorism. Though many have taken to social media over the past few days not focusing on the President but about Michelle Obama and how she was not properly dressed.

In Saudi Arabia, women are required to wear a niqabs or a headscarf, unless there is a special exception and in this case, for the First Lady, Saudi official have seem to let it slide. Some have said that this is disrespectful but other state that she should not be required to wear a scarf because she is not only American but the First Lady of the United States and with that comes a form of power and title of her own.
Should the first lady have held to Saudi Arabia’s tradition for women to keep their faces covered or should she be given the right to dress as she pleases due to her elite status?
