On Friday, Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi tweeted that Lebanese security services had intercepted an estimated 10 million captagon tablets en route from Lebanon to Senegal and ultimately to Saudi Arabia.
According to Mawlawi’s statement, the narcotics were discovered in a consignment of rubber carbon. It was during an operation in northern Lebanon’s Al-Qubbah area. Four persons were apprehended during this operation.
Captagon is one of the most popular recreational drugs among young people in the Middle East. This chemical is an amphetamine combination that is often referred to as “poor man’s cocaine.”
According to security authorities in Lebanon and Jordan. Massive volumes are made in Syria and then trafficked to the Gulf through their countries.
Due to the country’s drug trafficking, Saudi Arabia banned all imports from Lebanon in 2021.
The United States Treasury Department imposed fines on two Lebanese people accused of being engaged in the trafficking of captagon out of Syria earlier this month.
