Miss Universe 2015 has been crowned, and had to get through Miss USA to take home the prize.
“It will be a dream come true to represent the woman of today. A woman that not only cares about being beautiful and being glamorous, but also cares about being a professional, intelligent, hard-working person,” exclaims Miss Colombia Paulina Vega, who was just crowned as the next Miss Universe.
If you could believe it, this stunning beauty never really ran in many beauty pageants in the past, and stated that the contests leading up to Miss Universe were the first she had participated in.
Vega, a 22-year-old who hails from Barranquilla Colombia, is a student of business administration. She beat out the first runner-up Miss USA Nia Sanchez, as well as 78 other contestants this Sunday at the pageant that was held in Miami, Florida.
Nia Sanchez, who comes from Las Vegas, Nevada, made her country proud being the first runner up. She is a fourth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. She believes in the sport so much that she proclaims, “It’s just something that’s so prevalent in our society and why not empower women to take control of a dangerous situation into their own hand.” She believes in it so much that she even travels throughout the country and instructs others about the learning of the art.
She was excited for the entire pageant and its events, except for the interview segment, which she said she “dreaded.” To prepare she practiced with her roommate Miss Australia, Tegan Martin. She understood that the interview part was key to winning the competition and stated, “The Interview is the best place to connect with the judges. Miss Universe is not a runway model. I can look good on stage all I want but if I can’t talk to somebody I’m not going to be a good Miss Universe.”
The Miss Universe Pageant is a celebration of culture and beauty, every country who participated should be proud of their contestants and understand the struggles and pressure they deal with while still looking unbelievable.
