‘Scandal’ fans can rejoice because The Limited has launched their new clothing line that is inspired by Olivia Pope. Together with actress Kerri Washington, designers Lyn Paolo and Elliot Staples have teamed up to create pieces that display “Confidence by Design.” Not only will this new line allow you to dress like Olivia Pope, but it will allow you to unleash your inner power.
The Limited sat down with Washington to get the “inside scoop” about the Scandal line. Washington admits that, “Powerful women need more options.” Women today play multiple roles and are rising up in the professional world. While in their perspective career, women may find it hard to hold on to their femininity because they have to be as aggressive as their male counterparts. That is why Washington believes that the pieces inspired by Olivia Pope can make you, “feel like a woman, feel feminine and beautiful and still feel like you are in full control”.
The “dynamic trio” has created “78 pieces” that can make about “3000 looks” when mixed and matched with clothes in the collection or when paired with clothes you already own. For designer Elliot Staples, it’s important that a woman feels good in what she wears because once “she feels good she is going to present herself more confidently.” Confidence is exactly what this collection is trying to improve.
Washington further explains how women often have to choose who they are while performing different roles throughout the day. She mentioned how women can feel as if they cannot be both pretty and aggressive. Perhaps it is because they fear they will not be taken seriously and femininity is often viewed as a weakness. But when wearing the clothes in this line, “You can be fabulous and fearless and you don’t have to compromise who you are as a woman to fit somebody’s expectation of what power looks like.” Power does not know gender, race or status; it only goes where confidence is.
The Limited’s ‘Scandal’ collection is one that should be checked out by Olivia Pope fans, as well as women who love exuding confidence. The structured jackets and signature black-and-white pieces are classy, eloquent and sharp. Overall, The Limited aspired to create this line, “to inspire possibilities for ladies who lead—women just like you.”
