A boat that was traveling from neighboring Antigua to the islands of St. Kitts and Nevis sank early in the morning on Tuesday. According to government sources, it has already resulted in the deaths of at least three people.
After setting sail from Antigua about 65 miles to the east, the vessel capsized some 12 miles south of St. Kitts’ Conaree village. According to the official news agency of Antigua, ABS, the vessel was carrying 32 persons when it went down.
After saying that 16 people, including two from Antigua and Barbuda and fourteen from African countries, had been rescued from the water and brought to St. Kitts, it went on to claim that the Saint Kitts and Nevis Defense Force had boosted its search efforts after those 16 people.
A aircraft has been sent to assist in the search for those who have gone missing, according to Colonel Telbert Benjamin of the Antigua and Barbuda Defense Force.
