Taylor Swift took to Tumblr Thursday to make an unfortunate announcement. Sadly, Mama Swift has cancer. Swift didn’t divulge any more details in order to keep her mother’s privacy. Swift is notorious for having a strong bond with her fans and decided to share the news with them. She sent out a tweet that said “Just so you know…” with a link to the Tumblr post. In the post Swift explains that this past Christmas all she wanted from her mom was for her to go to the doctor. Her mom felt fine and there didn’t seem to be anything wrong with her, but she went so Taylor and her brother, Austin, would back off.
Sadly, the news was not what they were expecting. Like Swift said in her post, when something happens to her, she deals with it by writing a song about it and her fans hear about it later. This was too important to keep from her adoring fans, who would notice that something is off. Swift’s mother, Andrea Finlay, 57, has a very active role in her daughter’s career. Finlay usually accompanies her daughter on tour and has been in some of Swift’s music videos.

Since Swift broke the news to her fans the #PrayForMamaSwift has been trending on Twitter on Thursday. A lot of fans have also been quoting Swift’s song “Change.” The lyrics are “there’s something in your eyes that says we can beat this,” which is very fitting for what is going on in Swift’s family. The initial tweet that linked to the Tumblr post has been retweeted over 57,000 times. The tweets from the fans melt the coldest of hearts from all their love and support.
At the end of Swift’s post on Tumblr she wanted her fans to do the same to their parents as she did to her mom. Nag their parents to go to the doctor just to be sure everything is alright. They may seem fine on the outside and they may not have any symptoms of anything, but one never knows for sure. Maybe they can catch something early or there is nothing wrong at all. Swift closes out her post with “Thank you for caring about my family so much that she would want me to share this information with you. I hope and pray that you never get news like this.”
