You know, that holiday before Christmas. Whether you’re just a kid or in your golden years, here are a few family favorites to heighten your spirits on good ol’ Turkey Day!
Planes, Trains and Automobiles- Starring Steve Martin and John Candy, this comedy revolves around the life of Neal Page (Martin), an overworked and over stressed businessman who is desperately trying to make it home for Thanksgiving. Alone the way he meets Del Griffith (Candy) a salesman who means well but causes more struggle than progress. This hilarious comedy is a classic that will bring a smile to your entire household. It’s Steve Martian and John Candy… who wouldn’t love it?
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving– No home could be without Charlie Brown around the holiday season. Well, it could, but that would be no fun. Join the notorious Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Woodstock, Patricia ‘Peppermint Patty’ and of course Snoopy as they attempt to put together a Thanksgiving dinner.
Free Birds– One of Thanksgiving latest films surrounding Turkey Day, Free Birds sends Reggie (Owen Wilson) and Jake (Woody Harrelson) back in time on order to take turkey off the Thanksgiving menu. This time twisting comedy takes the age-old tradition of turkey eating and spins it to provide the insight of dinner itself. It will no doubt make you think twice about your meal, so proceed with caution.
Friends, The One With the Rumor– OK, it’s not a movie, but it’s ‘Friends’ and it makes the list regardless. This episode stars out six beloved friends with the addition of Brad Pitt who plays Will, an old friend of Ross. The two started an “I hate Rachel club” back in high school, which revolved around hating Rachel, even though Ross secretly loved her. The gang fights, the gang laughs and it’s very “OH MY GOD!” Sorry, no Janis in this episode…
Miracle on 34th Street– Whether you love the one from 1947 or the 1997, ‘Miracle on 34th Street’ is a classic holiday film that not only has a little bit of Thanksgiving, but opens the doors to Christmas. Open you minds and hearts and watch as Susan Walker (Mara Wilson) and her mother Dorey (Elizabeth Perkins) struggle with that one Christmas question we have all struggled with, do you believe in Santa Clause?
