Man who killed Osama Bin Ladin in the raid on his Abbottabad compound in Pakistan on 2 May 2011, has made headlines around the world.
Former Navy Seal Robert O Neill said in an interview with The Washington Post that he was the one who fired the final shot to kill Osama Bin Ladin.
Robert was congratulated personally by President Barack Obama, and his exploits immortalized in three Hollywood movies. And yet nobody knew his name – until now.
Robert had been serving as a SEAL for 15 years at the time of the bin Ladin raid, had participated in other missions before — but he said he feared this mission would be his most difficult one.

He confirmed his identity to the Washington Post amid a barrage of controversy over a forthcoming US television special in which he will recount the daring Special Forces operation raid on Osama Bin Ladin’s compound in 2011.

According to The Telegraph, ‘I didn’t think I would survive,’ he told the newspaper, as he described the Seals’ assumption that the hideout in Pakistan would be heavily guarded and booby-trapped to ward off attacks.
He further said it was clear that Bin Laden had been killed and not merely injured from his shot when he fell to the floor with a split skull. Before he was shot, Bin Laden “had his hands on a woman’s shoulders pushing her ahead,” O’Neill recounts, likely to deflect the attack, says CNN.
Mr. Robert acknowledged that gunshots were fired by at least two other SEALs during the raid, including Mark Bissonnette, who described the raid in the book, “No Easy Day”.
But he insisted to The Washington Post that it was clear that Bin Ladin had been killed instantly by his first shot as his skull was split by the bullet.
